Operator Notes:

A bullpup design weapon. AUG stands for Armee Universal Gewehr or Universal Army Rifle. The trigger controls selective fire - half a trigger pull is semi-auto, a full pull is full-auto. This takes a little training to get used to. It has standard optical sight of 1.5x magnification and has back up iron sights on top of the optical sight. This weapon is much shorter than the M16 series weapons but has a barrel the same length. It is a very accurate and reliable weapon. Being a bullpup design with the action and magazine housing to the rear creates one problem. Magazine changes are not quick and you must come off the target to replace a magazine. Some operators dislike this. Others find the weapon's accuracy well worth this minor difficulty. The barrel is easily removed from the weapon. It can be replaced with even shorter 16 inch or 13.7 inch barrels. The stock is extremely durable and can withstand a 5 ton truck driving over it (it's been done!). There are also left handed versions of this weapon. The Austrian and Australian militaries both issue this weapon to their troops.
