Machine Gun or Medium Machine Gun M203
'Top Event' ... Matt holding MK 23 pistol with
KAC suppressor during raid at hacienda in Ensenada, Mexico
ACP (+P ammo)
(1142fps/346mps with +P ammo)
Produced in response to the US Special Operations
Command (USSOCOM) contract for an Offensive Handgun Weapon System
(OHWS). The H&K MK 23 Mod 0 is actually one of three parts
of this system. The system also includes a laser aiming module
(LAM) and Knight's Armaments Company (KAC) sound and flash suppressor.
This KAC supressor produces 132 dB of noise fired dry and 122
dB when wet (a few ounces of water in the suppressor). The LAM
can be used as a white light or Infrared (with IR filter) light
illuminator or as a laser dot sight. The MK 23 is a large handgun
and is not easily concealed. Then again, it is an offensive handgun
and was designed to be a primary weapon in extreme close quarter
combat (such as airliners, buses and shipboard). It was also designed
to fire +P .45 ACP ammunition. Though relatively new, it has undergone
extensive testing and is considered extremely reliable and accurate.
It had to fulfil the highest accuracy requirement for a handgun
the US military ever required. This weapon can be set to fire
single action only, or double action only, according to the operator's
preference. The only drawback for this system is it's large size.
The civilian version of this weapon is the H&K Mark 23 which
differs only in the inscription on the slide and the barrel headspace
specifications. There are smaller versions of this system known
as the H&K USP (Universal Service Pistol) that are also chambered
in .40 S&W and 9mm Parabellum.
